Dr. Nina Scheer

Member of the German Bundestag since 2013.

Attended school in Bonn; obtained Abitur (higher-education entrance qualification) in 1991; studied music in Essen (specialising in the violin) and graduated in 1996; studied law in Bonn; passed first state examination in law in 2001; obtained doctorate in political science (Dr. rer.pol.) in Leipzig in 2008; wrote doctoral thesis on the subject of global free trade and environmental protection.

Managing director of UnternehmensGrün, the federal association for a green economy, from 2007 to 2013. Chairwoman of the executive committee of the Hermann Scheer Foundation since 2010; member of the Committee of Chairpersons on the World Council for Renewable Energy; member of Friends of Nature Germany (NaturFreunde Deutschlands e.V.); member of EUROSOLAR, the European Association for Renewable Energy; member of the jury awarding the German Solar Prize; member of IALANA, an association of lawyers against the use of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons; founding member of the Institute of Modern Solidarity. Member of the advisory council of the Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Post and Railway (BNetzA); deputy chairwoman of the parliamentary advisory council of the German Renewable Energy Association (BEE e.V.); member of the political/scientific advisory council of the German BioEnergy Association (BBE e.V.).

Joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 1987; member of the SPD’s Commission on Basic Values.
